Wednesday Afternoon US Grain Weather Summary

The radar map shows lot of scattered showers over 60% of MN, 50% of SD, NEB, western KS and far nw IA… HEAVY rains over 70% of MO, ARK, LA, into central ILL and sw IND.

1-5 DAY = No changes in the 1-5D — 12z WED GFS has an area of 5-6 inches over south central ILL.  This image shows rainfall forecast next 60 hours from the NAM and RGEM short range models.

6-10 DAY = The 12z WED operational GFS is wet over much of Midwest 1-2″/ 25-50mm with 60% coverage over the ECB … 50% coverage over the WCB and 60% coverage over SD and NEB. This time the GFS ENSEMBLE does support this sort of wetter 6-10 DAY.

12z Canadian model is also very wet in the 6-10 day over eastern WY, western and central NEB into northern KS with 2-5″/ 50-125mm but rest of WCB and ECB regions sees only scattered light showers with 30-40% coverage of 0.25-0.75″ /6-25mm.  BUT the CMC 6-10 day ensemble also shows this widespread Moderate rain over central Plains and Midwest much like the 12z GFS ensemble is showing. As you can see the 6-10DAY Canadian ensemble shows 70% coverage over the Midwest of 0.50-1.5″/ 12-38mm over NEB, KS, OK, SD, IA, MO, ILL, IND, OH, KY, WVA.

11-15 DAY= the 12z operational GFS is also fairly wet with 1-2″/ 25-50mm  and 70% coverage over SD, NEB, IA, central ILL. The GFS ensemble has this rain but it is lighter and further south. 12z Canadian ensembles support this as well.
