Soybeans–
Soybeans came back today rallying more than 15 cents, after breaking hard since mid-November. Soybeans are now above the previous resistance at 1050 and 1060. Soybeans may struggle to rally further from here because of favorable weather in Brazil. The next resistance is 1080 for March soybeans. China still has a long way to go on reaching the 12 mmt target by February. It’s estimated that China has bought about 8 mmt of US beans so far. Soybean oil was up big today and is almost above 50 cents again. Exports were 980k mt, for the week ending January 1. Last week’s exports were up 207k from the week prior.

Corn closed higher today, after losing some momentum during the holiday trade. Resistance for March corn is still 450. Corn has struggled to make a decisive move through 450, but it seems more likely than not with the way the chart is setting up. Seasonal charts show strength for January and February in the 20-year index but weakness in the 5 and 10-year index. Crude oil was up a buck today, which supported corn. Exports were 1.206 mmt for the week ending January 1, which is nearly 150k mt below last week.

Wheat was higher with the other grains today. I mentioned the relative strength in wheat last week, staying above 500, despite the overall weakness in the grains which may have been a clue ahead of the rally today. Wheat exports were 183k mt, which was 135 mt below last week. The plains have been unusually hot for this time of year. Winter wheat areas are missing protective snow cover. Chicago wheat has resistance at 520 then 527.
