Be advised that the 12z GFS operational models are coming out and it has more rain over central and northern Iowa then the previous runs did.  By the morning of July 24 Monday, the GFS is now showing 1-2″/ 25-50mm covering most of Iowa except for the far northwest corner.  Over eastern and northeastern Iowa the rainfall amounts are from 3-5″/ 75-125mm of rain.  The heaviest rains remain however over southern Minnesota which sees 75% coverage of 2 -8″/ 50-200mm and 1 -2″/ 25-50mm have also moved into the northern half of Illinois at this time.

This increase in the rain is supported by the experimental GFS parallel model.  Undoubtedly this is going to cause a reaction since this rain is not just ordinary 0.50-1.25″ rains.  It is too early to know for certain if these wetter solutions are going to show up on the Canadian or regular GFS ensembles or the European.
