HISTORY
Founded to build business globally through relationships.
Walsh Trading was founded in 1996 by John J. Walsh. John began his career in the futures industry 10 years prior at privately held firm, Barnes and Company. Barnes and Company was known for its presence at the Board of Trade, particularly in the agricultural sector. From Barnes, John held positions at the privately held firm, Argus and then at Continental Grain. During his time there, Continental Grain was one of the largest clearing firms in the world. Continental Grain had, and continues to maintain, extensive holdings in the cash cattle, poultry, swine, and agriculture industries. At Continental Grain, John had various responsibilities including working for the Options Group and the Risk Management Group where he serviced clients located all over the world.
John left Continental Grain to found Walsh Trading with the intent to serve domestic and international customers around the globe. Over the last twenty plus years, Walsh Trading has focused on two main aspects of the business. First, hiring and cultivating talented individuals. Second, building relationships throughout the industry.
It is John’s belief that all things stem from relationships. At Walsh Trading, we are committed to servicing our customers in everything we do. Walsh Trading is currently registered as a Guaranteed Introducing Broker (GIB) with Straits Financial. We thank Straits for their trust and will continue to “Build Business Globally Through Relationships.”

THE 3 C’s – CAPITAL, CAPACITY, CAPABILITY
Since 2008 the global financial landscape has changed. The financial world, especially the futures industry, has consolidated. Today more than ever customers need to more carefully evaluate their broker and their clearing firm. To help in the evaluation process, Walsh Trading has instituted an ideal we refer to as the three C’s. Capital; Capacity; and Capability. We are committed to upholding these ideals and working only with a clearing firm that share our values.
Capital
Does your firm have a strong capital base? We believe this is a key ingredient to success and stability. We define capital as a clearing firms net capital.
Capacity
Does your FCM have the capacity to grow with its customer base? Again, we believe this is a key ingredient to success. We define capacity as the ability to take on and service customers.
Capability
Does your firm have the capability to service its customers? Walsh takes pride in its service. We believe through our resources and experience Walsh has the capability to properly service your account. We only clear with firm’s who have the same philosophy. We define capability as a firm having key people in the futures industry that can service its clientele.
